¿Cómo inicia tu vida en los caballos?
A través de papá, que siempre tuvo una muy buena organización de caballos y gracias a él pudimos empezar desde los 6 ó 7 años con mis hermanos.
¿Cuáles fueron tus primeros pasos como jugador de Polo?
Arranqué a jugar la copa potrillitos que es el primer torneo que juega todo polista a los 8 años y después fui jugando distintas copas con mis hermanos, primos y amigos.
¿Cómo es la experiencia de ser un jugador profesional?
Es muy linda, en todos los lugares donde jugamos al polo en el exterior son excelentes lugares para vivir, Florida – Londres – Sotogrande. Además de que toda mi familia tambien viaja a los mismos lugares se hace mucho más divertido y esta profesión nos da tiempo a poder hacer otras actividades como golf, tenis, futbol.
¿Qué consejo le darías a los nuevos jugadores de Polo?
Que le dediquen mucho tiempo a la puesta a punto de los caballos, Hoy los caballos son muy importantes para que nosotros podamos estar peleando los torneos más importantes del mundo, además obviamente de estar bien entrenado físicamente y mentalmente.
Has ganado el Abierto de Palermo, en Estados Unidos, en Inglaterra, en España, has tenido una temporada muy buena, ¿Sientes algún pendiente en el Polo? ¿Alguna meta pendiente?
La verdad que he logrado ganar los mejores torneos del mundo y de ahora en adelante mi meta es poder continuar logrando más torneos y seguir aprendiendo de toda la gente que trabaja con nosotros, con los caballos.
How did you start your life with horses?
Through dad, who always had a very good horse organization and thanks to him we were able to start when I was 6 or 7 years old with my brothers.
What were your first steps as a Polo player?
I started playing in the Potrillitos Cup, which is the first tournament that every polo player plays at 8 years old, and then I played different cups with my brothers, cousins, and friends.
How is the experience of being a professional polo player?
It’s very nice, all the places where we play polo abroad are excellent places to live, Florida – London – Sotogrande. In addition to the fact that my whole family also travels to the same places, it is much more fun and this profession gives us time to do other activities such as golf, tennis, soccer.
What advice would you give to new Polo players?
To dedicate a lot of time to getting their horses ready. Today, horses are very important for us to be able to compete in the most important tournaments in the world, as well as obviously being well trained physically and mentally.
You have won the Palermo Open, in the United States, in England, in Spain, you have had a very good season. Do you have any pending tasks in Polo? Any pending goals?
The truth is that I have managed to win the best tournaments in the world and from now on my goal is to be able to continue winning more tournaments and continue learning from all the people who work with us, with the horses.

Hoy Ellerstina es una de las organizaciones más grandes del mundo y todos los días aprendes algo nuevo.
Pieres, un apellido tradicional de Polo y corazón de Ellerstina ¿Qué es para ti jugar a un lado de tus hermanos y en los torneos de mayor importancia mundial?
Es lo que siempre soñé de chico, empezamos jugando de muy jóvenes juntos y nos conocemos de memoria adentro de una cancha, por suerte nos llevamos muy bien con mis hermanos y todos sumamos para un mismo lado siempre, así que eso hace que todo sea más simple.
Siempre se ha hablado de esa relación del polista con su caballo, para ti ¿Cómo es esa relación con tu caballada?
Como te decía antes, es lo más importante. Me paso la mayor parte del día en mi caballeriza y pendiente de como están físicamente, cada caballo, el cuidado que se le da a cada uno de ellos es muy importante.
Como polista, ¿Cuál es el partido o torneo que recuerdes de manera más especial y porqué?
La final del Abierto de Palermo del 2008, fue mi primer Abierto y junto con Gonza, mi hermano, lo pudimos ganar. Una sensación muy parecida volví a vivir en el 2012 que volvimos a ganar el Abierto con Gonza y Nico mi otro hermano que se había sumado al equipo en el 2011.
¿Sientes que ha cambiado mucho la forma de jugar al Polo?
Si cambió un montón, han establecido reglas para que el juego sea más dinámico y ligero. Eso ayuda mucho al caballo y para la gente es más lindo de ver también.
¿Qué crees que le hace falta al Polo mundial para fortalecerse?
Que los sponsors sigan apostando al Polo y que el nivel de las canchas siga siendo un éxito para que los patrones se sientan cómodos y sigan participando.

Today Ellerstina is one of the largest organizations in the world and every day you learn something new.
Pieres, a traditional Polo surname and Ellerstina's heart. What does it mean to you to play alongside your brothers and in the most important tournaments in the world?
It’s what I always dreamed of as a child. We started playing together when we were very young and we know each other by heart on the court. Luckily, my brothers and I get along very well and we all always support each other, so that makes everything simpler.
There has always been talk about the relationship between a polo player and his horse. For you, what is that relationship like with your horses?
As I was saying before, it’s the most important thing. I spend most of the day in my stables and I’m aware of how each horse is physically. The care given to each one of them is very important.
As a polo player, what is the match or tournament that you remember most and why?
The final of the Palermo Open in 2008 was my first Open and together with Gonza, my brother, we were able to win it. I experienced a very similar feeling in 2012 when we won the Open again with Gonza and Nico, my other brother who had joined the team in 2011.
Do you feel that the way of playing Polo has changed a lot?
It has changed a lot, they have established rules so that the game is more dynamic and light. That helps the horse a lot and it is nicer for the people to watch as well.
What do you think is missing or what could help the world of Polo to become stronger?
That the sponsors continue to bet on Polo and that the level of the fields continues to be a success so that the patrons feel comfortable and continue to participate.
