¿Cómo inicia tu vida en los caballos?
Mi pasión hacia los caballos incia en 1997, cuando acompañaba a mi suegro, su alteza el Maharaj Sawai Bwhani Singh de Jaipur al campo de Polo. Él siendo un polista realizado fue mi mentor y mi guía en todo lo que a Polo se refiere. Luego en el 2003 después de haber mirado tantos partidos de Polo en el campo de Jaipur, fui introducido a la 61st Caballería por Su Alteza.Con ellos llevé un programa de entrenamiento riguroso de 6 meses en equitación y polo.
¿Encuéntras alguna diferencia en tu estilo de jugar al Polo con otros países en el mundo?
Las reglas y regulaciones bajo las cuales se practica el Polo en todo el mundo son uniformes. Sin embargo la rica cultura y la herencia de Rajasthan le da al juego una intensidad unica en color y forma que lo hace sobresalir cuando se le compara con otros partidos en el mundo. Jaipur en particular, un líder del Polo en India, atrae a miles de espectadores de todos los matices sociales, algo no visto en otras partes del mundo.
¿Hay algún partido que nunca olvides? y ¿porqué?
Justo después de mi entrenamiento inicial con la 61st Caballería tuve la oportunidad de jugar mi primer partido oficial en Jaipur. Fue en el mismo campo donde años atrás acostumbraba mirar otros jugadores practicar Polo. Con la habilidad y la suerte de haberlo ganado, recibí el trofeo en manos de Su Alteza el Maharaj Sawai Bhawani Singh, quien me introdujo a este deporte y constantemente me motivó a tomarlo como un deporte serio. Esto fue en el 2003
How did your life with horses begin?
My passion for horses began in 1997, when I accompanied my father-in-law, His Highness Maharaj Sawai Bwhani Singh of Jaipur, to the Polo field. Being an accomplished polo player, he was my mentor and guide in all things Polo. Then, in 2003, after watching so many Polo matches on the Jaipur field, I was inducted into the 61st Cavalry by His Highness. With them, I underwent a rigorous six-month training program in horsemanship and polo.
Do you find any differences in your style of playing Polo compared to other countries around the world?
The rules and regulations under which Polo is played around the world are uniform. However, Rajasthan’s rich culture and heritage give the game a unique intensity in color and form that makes it stand out when compared to other games around the world. Jaipur in particular, a leader in Polo in India, attracts thousands of spectators from all walks of life, something unseen in other parts of the world.
Is there a match you’ll never forget? And why?
Right after my initial training with the 61st Cavalry, I had the opportunity to play my first official match in Jaipur. It was on the same field where years before I used to watch other players practice polo. With the skill and luck of having won it, I received the trophy from His Highness Maharaj Sawai Bhawani Singh, who introduced me to the sport and constantly encouraged me to take it seriously. This was in 2003.

Con esta experiencia de 10 años, ¿Qué le dirías a los jóvenes polistas? ¿Algún consejo?
El Polo es un deporte único, un deporte que engloba la pasión, el glamour, estilo y tradición. Mi consejo para los jóvenes es que se apasionen realmente en este deporte y al mismo tiempo, tomen todas las medidas de seguridad ya que el Polo es un deporte muy rápido y peligroso.
¿Qué puedes decirnos del Polo Mexicano?
Tengo algunos amigos de México que juegan al Polo como Carlos
Gracida, su hermano Guillermo Gracida y Guillermo Steta, que los he conocido jugando al Polo y quienes son reconocidos a nivel mundial. Estoy buscando una oportunidad para jugar con ellos en México. Encuentro al polista mexicano extremadamente hábil y tan bueno como cualquier otro jugador en el mundo.
¿Qué marca de mazo usas?
Mi marca favorita es Casa Zappala
¿Qué esperamos del Marahaj en el futuro próximo?
Siendo el embajador ante la FIP por India, estaré atendiendo al Encuentro Anual General de la FIP, de igual forma participaré de la celebración de los 30 años de la FIP. Estaré jugando Polo durante mi estancia en la Argentina y asistiré al Abierto Argentino de Polo.
¿Tiénes planes de visitar México?
Si tengo la oportunidad me gustaría visitar México y jugar con sus grandes y eminentes polistas, también explorar las posibilidades de un intercambio cultural entre nuestros países a través del medio del Polo.
¿Qué relación espiritual crees que tienes con tus caballos?
Creo que la doma natural opera a 3 niveles: el físico, el mental y el emocional. A menos que podamos establecer una unión mutua en los 3 niveles, uno nunca realmente establece una relación recíproca de confianza y respeto entre el jinete y el caballo. Sólo creando este tipo de relación el hombre y el caballo se convierten en una sola entidad
en el campo de juego. A menos que puedas influenciar a tu caballo mental y emocionalmente, no serás capáz de controlarlo físicamente, en donde el caballo sabe exactamente lo que el jinete quiere.
Si tuvieras que deifinir al Polo en una sola palabra ¿Cuál sería?
Pasión, es un juego de pasión.
With this 10 years of experience, what would you say to young polo players? Any advice?
Polo is a unique sport, one that encompasses passion, glamour, style, and tradition. My advice to young people is to truly become passionate about this sport and, at the same time, take all safety precautions, as polo is a very fast and dangerous sport.
What can you tell us about Mexican Polo?
I have some friends from Mexico who play Polo, like Carlos Gracida, his brother Guillermo Gracida, and Guillermo Steta. I’ve met them playing Polo and they are world-renowned. I’m looking for an opportunity to play with them in Mexico. I find Mexican polo players extremely skilled and as good as any other player in the world.
What brand of mallet do you use?
My favorite brand is Casa Zappala.
What do we expect from Marahaj in the near future?
As the ambassador to the FIP for India, I will be attending the FIP Annual General Meeting and also participating in the FIP’s 30th anniversary celebration. I will be playing Polo during my stay in Argentina and will attend the Argentine Polo Open.
Do you have plans to visit Mexico?
If I have the opportunity, I would like to visit Mexico and play with its great and eminent polo players. I would also like to explore the possibilities of cultural exchange between our countries through the medium of Polo.
What spiritual relationship do you think you have with your horses?
I believe natural horsemanship operates on three levels: physical, mental, and emotional. Unless we can establish a mutual connection on all three levels, one never truly establishes a reciprocal relationship of trust and respect between rider and horse. Only by creating this type of relationship do man and horse become a single entity on the playing field. Unless you can influence your horse mentally and emotionally, you won’t be able to control it physically, where the horse knows exactly what the rider wants.
If you had to define Polo in one word, what would it be?
Passion. It’s a game of passion.
